Location
West Midlands
Duration
2 weeks
The Challenge
The project involved installing 300 square meters of LVT flooring in a dementia care home that was fully operational. The challenge was to complete the work while ensuring minimal disruption to residents, staff, and their routines. Key considerations included:
- Residents’ Movements: Coordinating work around meal times, bathroom schedules, and medical interventions.
- Staff Access: Ensuring that staff could move around the building while work was ongoing.
- Health and Safety: Maintaining strict safety protocols for both residents and workers, especially in such a sensitive environment.
- Timescales: Completing the work within a strict timeline to minimize disruption to the care home’s daily activities.
Our Approach
Hammond Hill Flooring took a methodical, flexible approach to ensure a smooth and successful installation:
- Detailed Schedule of Works: We provided the client with a full schedule of works, outlining each stage of the process. This allowed the care home to plan and coordinate staff and resident activities around the work, ensuring minimal disruption.
- Resident and Staff Considerations: We worked in phases, adjusting our schedule to accommodate medical emergencies and sensitive resident movements, prioritizing access for staff and residents as needed.
- Efficient Drying Solution: Normally, the drying time for self-levelling compound is around 8 hours. However, we developed a unique solution that allowed the compound to dry in just 1 hour, enabling us to maximize the available access time for staff and residents.
- Health and Safety Protocols: We implemented strict health and safety procedures, ensuring all work areas were safe and secure. Fitters were DBS certified to ensure that they could work unsupervised in a care environment, giving the client peace of mind and allowing staff to focus on other duties.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Throughout the project, we remained adaptable, responding quickly to any changes in the schedule, including unplanned medical emergencies, ensuring that work was completed with minimal impact on the care home’s operations.
