The Challenge

This home is a purpose built, dementia friendly home, offering the highest quality of residential care in a stylish and homely environment.

The home provides 66 en-suite rooms across three floors, all furnished to the highest standard. There are a range of lounges and quiet rooms, so that individuals are able to enjoy a varied lifestyle

This project involved installing new luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring, where residents and staff continued their daily activities throughout the works. The existing floorcoverings — comprising a combination of carpet and LVT — had to be carefully removed, and the subfloor made good to provide a suitable base for the new finish. Ensuring minimal disruption to residents and staff, maintaining stringent health and safety standards, and overcoming subfloor preparation challenges were key priorities on this project.

Why Choose Hammond Hill

Projects like this demonstrate why clients trust Hammond Hill Flooring to work safely and efficiently in live healthcare environments. Our ability to plan works around occupied buildings, carry out specialist subfloor preparation, and use rapid-set systems ensures high-quality results with minimal disruption — even where time, access and resident wellbeing are critical considerations.

Our Approach

Hammond Hill Flooring took a methodical and professional approach to deliver this project safely, efficiently, and without unnecessary delays:

  • Floorcovering uplift: All existing carpets and LVT flooring were carefully uplifted to prepare the area for a quality installation surface.

  • Mechanical subfloor preparation: We used specialist mechanical grinding equipment to level and remove surface irregularities, ensuring the subfloor was smooth, sound and ready for finishing.

  • Rapid set levelling: To keep the project on programme and avoid long drying times, we applied a rapid set self-levelling compound — allowing subsequent trades to proceed without delay and minimising disruption.

  • Professional LVT installation: Once the subfloor was prepared to the correct tolerance and specification, new LVT flooring was installed to a high standard, providing a durable, easy-to-clean, and aesthetically pleasing finish suited to the environment.

Outcome

The project was completed successfully with minimal interruption to normal nursing home operations. Thanks to careful planning and subfloor preparation, the new LVT floor provides a high-quality surface that meets both functional needs and design expectations. Residents and staff now benefit from a durable, hygienic flooring solution that enhances both comfort and cleanliness.
